Welcome to Madrone Ridge

Madrona Light

The graceful madrona (or madrone) trees are the only reminder of how tall the forest was on our hill before the loggers came. On the little ridge that shelters our house, only a handful of mature trees stand, towering over the young firs, cedars, alder, willows, and bitter cherry trees. Hundreds of young madrones sprang up from the cleared ground, crowding together. In the morning sunlight, their slender trunks flash reds, oranges, yellows, and pale greens.
