The back porch doesn't get as much use as the front porch. It is a little too small for our picnic table and it gets too much sun in the summer to be comfortable. Early in the spring, however, it's a nice place to sit on a bright day when the air is chilly and the sun is warm. You can see the Olympic Mountains through the skeletal trees before they fill in. If the clover is in bloom, there's a drowsy sound of bees as they sample the bud clusters. Later, the back yard is filled with rabbits nibbling the same clover ... unless they get muscled out by the deer. That far back corner in this picture can be home to some comfortable deer, lying in the grass and chewing their cud or nibbling on choice bits within reach. They look like big, brown dogs with shiny black noses. At the end of May, most of the does disappear for a few weeks and leave the tasty new growth to the young bucks. The bucks usually leave in June, and the does come in to mow the lawn with their jumpy, wide-eyed fawns. |
| Okay, technically this is not part of the house tour, but I spent a fair amount of my time here until being laid off in October 2001. Three of us worked together in this little 400-square-foot office. It was a little close, but we got along well and then we had this killer view of the bay out our windows. Great spot for eagle-watching in the winter and sailboat-watching in the summer ("no, really, we're working, not staring out the window ..."). | ![]() |
